FreeState Electric Cooperative, Inc seeking proposals for their Board of Trustees

FreeState Electric Cooperative, Inc. is seeking professional proposals for FreeState’s Board of Trustees counsel. FreeState is a not-for-profit electric cooperative which was formed January 1, 2017 by the consolidation of the former Leavenworth-Jefferson Electric Cooperative and Kaw Valley Electric Cooperative.

The Attorney at Law will represent FreeState as board counsel and provide general legal advice and counsel to FreeState management. The requirements of counsel include: 

  • Review all board materials, attend all monthly board meetings (4th Wednesday of each month) and prepare minutes of the meeting.
  • Conduct the annual election of trustees at the annual member meeting. 
  • At the meetings, and as requested during the month, provide general legal advice and counsel, especially about laws relating to the operation and regulation of electric cooperatives. 
  • Upon request, assist in referrals of legal matters to attorneys with appropriate experience. 
  • Periodically assist staff by answering legal questions and resolving legal problems with members or third parties.
