Foundation to honor Kansas City attorney with Weary Award

The Kansas Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that Kansas City attorney J. Eugene Balloun will be the 2015 recipient of the Robert K. Weary Award, to be presented at the annual Foundation dinner on Wednesday, June 17 at the Doubletree Hotel (10100 College Blvd.) in Overland Park.
The Weary Award recognizes lawyers or law firms for their exemplary service and commitment to the goals of the Foundation. The award was named after Robert Weary in 2000 for recognition of his decades of service to his community, the Foundation and the legal profession in Kansas.
Balloun is a partner at the Kansas City law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP, where he has spent most of his career practicing commercial litigation. Throughout his career he has tried to give back to the community with pro bono work. Most notably, Balloun has handled more than 1,000 pro bono adoptions for foster parents adopting foster children. From the state paid fees for those adoptions, he and his firm created a scholarship fund that has awarded more than 500 scholarships totaling over $625,000.
He is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law, where he has been honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, in addition to being honored by the Kansas Bar Association, Johnson County Bar Association, Lawyers Association of Kansas City and the Kansas Association of Defense Counsel.
