This weekend high school students from across the state will descend upon the Shawnee County Courthouse (200 SE 7th St., Topeka) to compete in the Kansas High School Mock Trial State Competition. Over 20 teams competed in two regional competitions earlier this year and six teams qualified for state:
  • Blue Valley Northwest High School, Overland Park
  • Shawnee Mission Northwest High School, Shawnee
  • Shawnee Mission East High School, Prairie Village
  • Sunrise Christian Academy, Bel Aire
  • The Independent School, Wichita
  • Washburn Rural High School, Topeka
Teams that advance to the state competition will compete in four initial rounds of trial: two on Friday, March 27 (5 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and two on Saturday, March 28 (8 a.m. and 10 a.m.). The top two teams from those initial rounds will then go on to compete in the final round (1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 28) to determine which team advances to the national competition in Raleigh, North Carolina, this May.

The media are invited to attend any portion of the competition. Photos are permitted; however, video of the trials should be limited to the final round. All competitors are instructed to keep an appropriate level of decorum during competition as this event occurs at a courthouse; the same is asked to members of the media.
