Thompson is a graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism, and the University of Kansas School of Law. He is admitted to practice in Kansas and Missouri, as well as in the federal district courts of Kansas and Western Missouri, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of the United States. He has successfully tried dozens of jury trials, and has been successful in litigating claims pertaining to wrongful death, bad faith, premises liability, motor vehicle accidents, real estate broker/agent malpractice, insurance coverage, and land use. Thompson is a Fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Kansas Bar Foundation, and he is a member of the Kansas Bar Foundation Board of Trustees.
