Dave has over 35 years of experience in Kansas and Federal tax practice, estate planning, probate and trust administration. Since 2001, Dave has established a mediation practice, primarily in business valuations, trust and estates, and related areas. Dave has also served as court-appointed Special Master for cases involving complex valuation, accounting, and financial issues. Dave is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.

Dave is a partner in the Topeka law firm of Newbery, Ungerer & Hickert LLP, focusing his practice on estate planning, federal and state taxation, probate, trust administration and private foundations. He received his BA, MBA and JD degrees from the University of Kansas and is a certified public accountant. Dave began his career in the Kansas City tax department of Haskins & Sells (predecessor of Deloitte & Co.) in 1973. From 1976 to 1979 he was Director of Taxation for the State of Kansas; from 1982 to 1988 he was Assistant Professor of Taxation at Washburn University School of Business. Dave subsequently served as adjunct professor at both Washburn’s Law School and Business School, teaching courses in Estate and Gift Tax, Advanced Estate Planning, State and Local Taxation, Business Law and Ethics. Dave currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Kansas Bar Foundation.
