High School Mock Trial Competition this Saturday: We Need Judges!

March 1 is the Kansas High School Mock Trial Regional Competitions in Olathe and Wichita. Judges are needed for all rounds, so please consider giving at least a little time for this valuable program! Lunch is also provided!
  • Round 1: 8 a.m.
  • Round 2: 10 a.m.
  • Round 3: 1 p.m.
  • Round 4: 3 p.m.
Email if you are interested, indicating (1) where—Olathe or Wichita—and (2) for which round(s) you are making yourself available.

5th Annual KALAP Spring Seminar

The Kansas Lawyers Assistance Program will be presenting their 5th annual spring seminar on April 4, 2014, at the Ramada Inn in Topeka. This year’s event will include such topics as aging issues for attorneys, co-dependence, and attorney discipline as it relates to aging and impairments. As always, the KALAP Annual Seminar offers a FREE LUNCH and FREE CLE. This event is usually offered to KALAP volunteers, but this year it will be open to all Kansas attorneys; although space will be limited. Judge Mark G. Farrell will discuss, in depth, the historical background, planning components, implementation, operation and experiential results of the world’s first and only Gambling Treatment Court established in Amherst, New York, in August 2001. Based on the philosophy of Therapeutic Justice and the protocols used successfully over the past two decades in Drug Treatment and other Problem Solving courts, Gambling Treatment Court has worked toward addressing a long existing dilemma in the criminal justice system and in so doing has extended therapeutic intervention and the "diseased based” model of drug courts in an area of addiction and resultant criminal activity not involving the ingestion of a foreign substance into the body.
