Presentation Description:


This session will provide an overview of the application of federal and state workplace laws to agricultural enterprises. The presentation will include a review of laws that do not distinguish between agricultural and non-agricultural employment and a discussion of statutes and regulations that partially exempt employers and employees engaged in agricultural pursuits.

J. Steven Massoni, Foulston Siefkin, LLP, Wichita, KS

Mr. Massoni has many years of experience in employment and commercial litigation. He frequently advises human resources professionals and corporate management regarding compliance with the maze of federal and state laws and regulations governing the employment relationship, such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA), as well as court-developed doctrines relating to retaliatory discharge, non-competition agreements, and sales commission contracts. Mr. Massoni enjoys Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory’s highest "AV” rating for lawyers. He is a member of the firm’s labor and employment team in the Wichita office. He has successfully represented clients in a panoply of discrimination, retaliation, hostile work environment, breach of contract, and other employment cases before state and federal courts, the Kansas Human Rights Commission, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
