This seminar will provide an overview of the types of bankruptcy cases, including new Subchapter V for small business reorganization, and basic bankruptcy concepts.  The presentation will highlight issues relevant to oil and gas producers.

Presenter: Karl R. Swartz

Karl has spent his entire 35-year legal career with Morris Laing, practicing in the areas of oil and gas law, banking and commercial law, real estate, and general business law. His experience in the oil and gas field includes contract negotiation and drafting, title examination, and representation of buyers and sellers of oil and gas interests. In addition to advising bank officers on a variety of day-to-day matters, Mr. Swartz represents financial institutions in loan transactions, foreclosures, workouts, and bankruptcy matters.  He also represents a broad range of business clients in real estate transactions and other business transactions. 

Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory ® has rated Mr. Swartz at the highest AV rating for lawyers, and he is listed in the Best Lawyers of America ®.  He obtained his B.A. from Wichita State University with majors in religion and philosophy, and received his law degree from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif.  Mr. Swartz is co-author of Kansas Homestead Law, The Journal of the Kansas Bar Association, April 1996.
