Kansas Bar Association Elects Officers for 2007-08
(July 10, 2007) Topeka, Kan.—Linda S. Parks, Wichita, has been elected to serve as the president of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA) for 2007-08. Her one-year term of office will run until June 2008. Parks is a partner in the firm of Hite, Fanning and Honeyman LLP. She received her J.D. from Washburn University School of Law in 1983 and has been a member of the KBA Board of Governors since 1999, serving as the delegate to the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates from 1999-2005, vice-president in 2005-06, and president-elect in 2006-07.
Thomas E. Wright, Topeka, was elected to serve as the president-elect of the Kansas Bar Association for 2007-08. He is the current Chairman of the Kansas Corporation Commission. A KBA member since 1964, Wright has served on the KBA Board of Governors as a District 5 representative from 1998-2004, and served as secretary-treasurer from 2006-2007. Wright earned his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law.
Timothy M. O’Brien has been elected to serve as the vice president of the Kansas Bar Association for 2007-08. O’Brien is a partner with Shook, Hardy and Bacon LLP in its office in Kansas City, Mo. O’Brien has been an active member of the KBA since 1983, previously serving on the KBA Board of Governors as a District 1 representative from 2000-2006, and remains an active member of the Bench-Bar and Diversity committees. He received his J.D. from the University of Kansas in 1983.
Hon. Benjamin L. Burgess, Wichita was elected to serve as the 2007-08 secretary-treasurer of the Kansas Bar Association. Judge Burgess is a district judge for the 18th Judicial District and was a member of the KBA Board of Governors from 1998 to 2004, serving as a District 7 representative. Judge Burgess has been a member of the KBA since 1972, and remains an active member of the Bench-Bar Committee. He received his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law.
Amy Fellows Cline, Wichita, will be serving as the 2007-08 Young Lawyers Section President. Cline has been with the law firm of Triplett, Woolf and Garretson LLC since 2004 and practices civil and business litigation. She received her J.D. from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2000 and has been an active member of the KBA, serving as mock trial coordinator, pro bono chair, and president-elect of the Young Lawyers section and also as past president of the Litigation section.
Sara S. Beezley, Girard, was elected to a second term as a KBA Delegate to the American Bar Association’s House of Delegates for 2007-2008. Beezley has been a solo practitioner in Girard since 1983 and served as president of the Kansas Bar Association in 2002-2003. Beezley has been a member of the KBA since 1979, after receiving her J.D. from Duke University.
