Governor Sebelius Joins Kansas Bar in Honoring Jurors
(May 2, 2005) Topeka, KSMichael Crow, President of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA), today announced a month-long celebration by the organization to honor the jury system and the important role it plays in society. In cooperation with this endeavor, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has proclaimed May 2-6, 2005, as Juror Appreciation Week in Kansas.
“A jury of one’s peers is a cornerstone of democracy,” said Crow. “Juries are essential to a fair and citizen-based system of justice.”
Gov. Sebelius urged all citizens to recognize those who are called upon to take time from their daily lives to fulfill the highest responsibility of citizenship and make our system of justices a reality through their jury service. In addition, she called on the citizens, schools, businesses, and media of our state to use this occasion to helping preserve and strengthen the jury system.
The proclamation is a joint effort between the Kansas Bar Association and the Kansas Supreme Court.
