Thompson Elected District Six Representative of Kansas Bar Association

(June 13, 2003) Topeka, KS—Gabrielle M. Thompson, Manhattan, was elected to serve as the District Six Representative of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA) Board of Governors by the association's membership for 2003-2004.

Thompson is the Managing Attorney of the Kansas Legal Services office in Manhattan and Seneca and practices in the areas of Family, Elder, Debtor-Creditor, and Farm Law. She is a 1982 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Law and a 1979 graduate of Kansas State University.

Thompson is a former Deputy District Attorney in Sedgwick County and Assistant County Attorney in Riley County. She has been active on the KBA Law Related Education Committee and in the Elder Law Section. She is a member of the Sam A. Crow American Inn of Court and is a past president of the Riley County Bar Association, where she served two terms on the Bench-Bar Committee. She has served on the Family Law Committee of the Sedgwick County Bar Association, as a member of the Board of Directors of Kansas Legal Services, and the Twenty-First Judicial District Nominating Commission. She has also served on the Riley County Domestic Violence Task Force and is presently on the advisory board of the Sunflower Bridge supervised visitation and exchange center.

The Kansas Bar Association was founded in 1882 as a voluntary association for dedicated legal professionals and has approximately 6,200 members, including lawyers, judges, law students, and legal assistants. The KBA is dedicated to advancing the professionalism and legal skills of lawyers, promoting the interests of the legal profession, providing services to its members, advocating positions on law-related issues, encouraging public understanding of the law, and promoting the effective administration of our system of justice.
