(June 12, 2003) Topeka, KSDaniel J. Sevart, Wichita, was installed as president of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA) yesterday at a KBA Board of Governors' meeting in Wichita. He succeeds Sara S. Beezley, Girard, who completed her one-year term as president of the KBA. Sevart is a partner with his wife, Shoko Kato Sevart, in the firm of Sevart & Sevart. He has a general practice with emphasis in mediation, general tort litigation, and corporate/commercial law.
Sevart has served on the Washburn University Alumni Association Board of Directors, the Board of Governors of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association, the City of Wichita Municipal Court Nominating Commission, and the Judicial Selection Panel for the Eighteenth Judicial District. He also served as president of the Wichita Bar Association from 1993-1994.
Gov. Bill Graves appointed Sevart to the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission in 1996 and reappointed him in 1998 and 2000. Sevart served as the KBA's president-elect in 2002-2003, vice president in 2001-2002, and secretary/treasurer in 1998-1999. He was elected to the KBA's Board of Governors to represent its seventh district in 1995 and 2000 and has also served on the KBA Executive Committee. He is the KBA representative to the Board of Directors of the Kansas Lawyer Service Corporation, is a Fellow of the Kansas Bar Foundation, and has served as the liaison to the Media-Bar and Continuing Legal Education committees.
Sevart graduated from Oswego High School in 1962, Parsons Junior College in 1964, Washburn University in 1973, and Washburn University School of Law in December 1975.
