(June 10, 2003) Topeka, KSThe Kansas Bar Association (KBA) recognized the Kansas Appleseed Center for Law and Justice Inc. for outstanding service to the legal profession in Kansas. J. Steven Massoni, director of the Kansas Appleseed Center, accepted the Outstanding Service Award at an awards luncheon on June 9 in Wichita.
Kansas Appleseed is a nonprofit organization that tackles public interest issues of concern to citizens across the state. By addressing problems that affect large segments of the state's population and public institutions, Kansas Appleseed is working to make Kansas a better place for families, foster teens, schools, and the courts. Its approach is to determine the nature and root source of problems and then to work in partnership with others who are able to make a difference.
The Outstanding Service Award is given for the purpose of recognizing lawyers and judges for service to the legal profession and/or the Kansas Bar Association and for recognizing nonlawyers for especially meritorious deeds or service that significantly advance the administration of justice or the goals of the legal profession and/or the KBA.

The Kansas Bar Association was founded in 1882 as a voluntary association for dedicated legal professionals
and has approximately 6,200 members, including lawyers,
judges, law students, and legal assistants. The KBA is dedicated
to advancing the professionalism and legal skills of lawyers,
