(June 13, 2003) Topeka, KSRichard Hayse, Topeka, was elected vice president of the Kansas Bar Association (KBA) by the association's membership for 2003-2004. He succeeds Michael P. Crow, Leavenworth, who was named president-elect of the KBA. Hayse has been in private law practice in Topeka since 1975; he is a director and shareholder of Morris, Laing, Evans, Brock & Kennedy Chtd. and is in charge of the firm's Topeka office.
Hayse serves on the KBA Executive Committee, is the board liaison to the Board of Editors for the Journal of the Kansas Bar Association, and is a member of the Legislative Committee. Hayse also served as a District Five (Topeka) Representative to the KBA Board of Directors from 1999-2003. He is a past director of the Topeka Bar Association and current chairman of its Program Committee, is a member of the American Bar Association, and a Fellow of the Kansas Bar Foundation.
Hayse received his J.D. from Washburn University School of Law in 1969. Prior to entering private practice, he was an Assistant Kansas Attorney General in the civil division. He also served as a Foreign Service Information Officer for the U.S. Information Agency.
He has served as a director and president of Cornerstone of Topeka Inc., the Topeka Lions Club, Topeka Youth Project, Topeka Symphony Society, and the Shawnee Yacht Club.
