KBA Annual Meeting
The KBA Annual Meeting has a new date: September 19-20, 2014, at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka. If you have ideas for the planning committee, please do not hesitate submitting them to the Idea Box on our website at http://www.ksbar.org/ideabox/.
The Kansas Specialty Courts Commission asks for feedback on specialty courts in Kansas. In March 2013, the Kansas Supreme Court established the Specialty Courts Commission and appointed Judge Steve Leben, of the Kansas Court of Appeals, as chairperson. Supreme Court Order No. 2013 SC 14, which appoints the Commission members and outlines its duties, can be found on the Kansas Judicial Branch website at http://www.kscourts.org/kansas-courts/supreme-court/orders/2013/2013SC14.pdf.
Specialty courts generally use problem-solving methods to address the underlying problems that bring litigants to court. These problem-solving methods may include the integration of treatment or other services with judicial case processing, ongoing judicial monitoring, and a collaborative, less adversarial court process.
In moving forward with an initiative to go green, effective January 1, 2014, KBA CLE will start providing registrants their CLE materials in electronic format. Materials will be sent to the email address on file with the Bar. Please make sure your email is updated on your profile page to ensure receipt of materials. If you wish to still receive a hard copy, you must mark that on your registration, as hard copies will only be available at the door for walk-in registrants and those who made a request.
