LOMAP Tip of the Week

Do you have trouble remembering all those passwords?

It seems like everything you sign up for today needs a password. Most people have many passwords, from your log in for your computer to the websites that you visit. If you are like me and are concerned with the security of your passwords, you end up having dozens of passwords. We all know that you shouldn’t use the same password for all of those accounts, but a lot of us have trouble coming up with secure and unique passwords that we can also remember. For those that have problems coming up with "strong” passwords, (websites are constantly telling me that my passwords are weak, so I try, try, try again) password generators like PC Tools Password Generator by Symantec or Norton Identity Safe Password Generator maybe useful.

For those of us that can’t remember of all our passwords, there are also tools that will do just that for us. For example, there is KeePass, LastPass and 1Password. Of course you will need to have a unique password to use these tools, but they allow you to keep all of your passwords in one secure encrypted place. To learn more about these programs and how to create secure passwords, I suggest that everyone read the LifeHacker post "The Only Secure Password Is the One You Can’t Remember”.
