Site Byte: Newsletters: What are they? Do I need them?

Have you been receiving email notifications with "Newsletter" but doesn't contain much more than that? Below, we'll try to explain some of the questions we've encountered.

What is a Newsletter?

Newsletters are an automatic, subscription-based, feature provided by our website. It is sent monthly as a summary or digest of what's happening in a Section and/or committee you belong to. This is separate from an individual Section's monthly or quarterly newsletter containing articles and advertisements for upcoming events.

What's inside a Newsletter?

Newsletters digest a few items: new members to a section, profile updates of members in the section, blog posts, photo uploads, and popular forum topics and discussions.

If a newsletter you receive seems to be blank or close to it, that means your Section hasn't been communicating with each other. Please introduce yourself in the forum. As a member of a section, you are part of something several others are a part of. Help be an active part of this community!

Yea, that's cute and all. How do I stop getting these Newsletters?

Newsletters are subscription based, so you can update whether you receive these emails via a few clicks in your user profile settings.

To turn off all Newsletters, go to Manage Profile and then Preferences. Near the very bottom, uncheck the "Group Digest" to stop getting a monthly Newsletter (digest of your groups/Sections). Once you uncheck, click the orange button that says "Save My Settings"

Reading Long Term Care Contracts

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Webinar

Presenter:

Dr. Stana Martin, Mrs Ltc Inc., Liberty, Mo.

Long term care contracts are filled with specialized jargon and helping clients evaluate policies requires at least minimal fluency in this vocabulary set. This is further complicated by the long window from purchase to use on these – clients have often forgotten exactly what they were told when they bought. This seminar is the first of a two part series on reading contracts and filing claims. This first part will cover how to read and understand the declaration page of benefits provided, give basic understanding of what to look for on what will trigger the claim, and identify some of the finer points that can cause confusion and problems for clients trying to make claim.

Processing Long Term Care Claims

Thursday, January 16, 2014

Webinar

Presenter:

Dr. Stana Martin, Mrs Ltc Inc., Liberty, Mo.

Unlike traditional health insurance where the claim process is managed by doctors and hospitals, long term care contracts rely on inexperienced family members to both file the claim and shepherd the process thru to successful completion. This seminar is the second in a two-part series to help professionals understand how the claim process works. It will identify how to know if a claim is likely to be successful (i.e., does the owner meet the contract triggers), give an overview of the filing process, review how HIPAA and a DPOA work in conjunction, and identify some of the most common mistakes people make when filing a claim.

Pardon Our Dust: Reconstructing Appellate Jurisdiction Under the Revised Kansas Code for Care of Children and Other Odds and Ends (Part One)

Wednesday, January 29, 2014

Webinar

Presenter:
Dennis Stanchik, Dennis J. Stanchik P.A., Olathe

The presentation will focus on three areas of the RKCCC that present potential problems to the practitioner. Specifically, the presentation will focus on: (1) K.S.A. 38-2272(d) and the possible unintended consequences when the court retains jurisdiction after appointing a permanent custodian; (2) whether K.S.A. 38-2286 provides any effective relief for a grandparent who has not been appointed as custodian or designated as placement for a grandchild; and, (3) whether the line of cases interpreting the provisions of K.S.A. 38-2273(a) have established a two pronged test for determining whether a particular order entered in a case governed by the RKCCC may be appealed. If time permits, the presentation will also discuss appellate opinions interpreting the RKCCC published in 2013.
