Topeka, Kan (August 29, 2014) - The Kansas Bar Association, a voluntary professional association of the bar, applauds all those who participated in the selection of our newest Supreme Court Justice – the applicants for the post, the Supreme Court Nominating Commission, and the members of the bar, judiciary and public who participated in the process. We believe that an open, merit-based means of selecting judges and justices of our highest courts best serves the people of Kansas.
The KBA has long advocated for the merit-based method of judicial selection, especially to the highest courts whose decisions can affect all Kansans. The Supreme Court Nominating Commission, and through it the public has now had the chance to review fourteen candidates for a position on the Kansas Supreme Court. From among those thoroughly vetted candidates, the Governor has now selected our newest Justice. The KBA congratulates Justice Caleb Stegall.
