LEGAL EDUCATION SERVICES PROGRAM PLANNER  The Kansas Bar Association, a statewide professional organization advancing the practice of law and the administration of justice in Kansas, seeks a Program Planner to provide assistance in the administration, planning, and implementation of the association’s continuing legal education (CLE) programs. Applicants must possess strong organizational and communication skills along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Kansas Bar Association, Legal Education Services Program Planner

 

Reports to: Legal Education Services Director

Principal Responsibility: Under direction from the Legal Education Services Director, the Legal Education Services Program Planner is responsible for the administration, planning, and implementation of the Association’s Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs.  This position plays a key role for the membership by:

  • coordinating efforts with Sections and various outside groups to plan and promote valuable CLE programs
  • administration of CLE programs including all logistical, financial and regulatory aspects
  • providing technical and administrative assistance to the members regarding CLE program compliance
  • serving as liaison between Legal Education Services and other areas of the KBA

General duties:

  • Simultaneously manage multiple deadlines for 70 CLE programs throughout the calendar year.
  • Develop and promote CLE seminars offered in a variety of formats including live, webinar, on-demand and video replays.
  • Supervise preparation of course materials and handle on-site coordination of CLE programs as directed by the Legal Education Services Director.
  • Assist with planning, logistical arrangements, scheduling, marketing, and publicity of CLE programs across the state – e.g. develop and distribute marketing materials by working with the Publications Coordinator, load and update website, arrange facility and technical specifics for programs, arrange for refreshments/meals, speaker travel, affidavit processing, etc.
  • Work with the Kansas CLE Commission on accreditation of KBA CLE programs.
  • Maintain information regarding CLE programs on the KBA Web site and within the database, also provide updates on CLE seminars to the Director of Legal Education Services to include in the KBA Weekly.
  • Maintain communications with members and volunteers on CLE topics
  • Assist with planning and coordination of Annual Meeting CLE component
  • Research information and assist with the preparation of required CLE reports as directed by the Legal Education Services Director.
  • With Section leadership, plan and coordinate all assigned Section legal education programs

Other:

  • Highly developed attention to detail as well as accurate spelling, grammar, data entry and proof reading skills.
  • Ability to self-start and maintain momentum throughout the CLE planning process
  • Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state to represent the KBA, including occasional overnight stays
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Legal Education Services Director
  • Provide general assistance to other staff as needed

Required qualifications:

  1. Degree from an accredited college or university; high school graduation or GED. Five years of professional experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  2. At least one year of professional meeting/event planning experience
  3. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  4. Excellent organizational skills – examples of organizational practices will be requested during interview
  5. Experience as front-line customer service employee

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite programs; desktop publishing software; and database software
  2. Experience with professional continuing education programming
  3. Experience working a membership association or non-profit organization

Physical or Special Requirements (if applicable): Ability to lift and carry boxes up to 20 pounds in weight to place on dolly, pull or push loaded dolly, and work independently while prioritizing projects and meeting deadlines under pressure.
