Accounting/Finance Manager – Kansas Bar Association and Kansas Bar Foundation

Reports to:
Executive Director

Principal Responsibility:
Manage the accounting functions of the Association and Foundation.

General Duties:

  • Maintain accounting system for all financial transactions of the KBA and KBF in compliance with auditor’s standards.
  • Record financial transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and the respective budget formats of the KBA and KBF.
  • Manage deposit and investment of KBA and KBF funds in compliance with established investment policy, and monitor cash flow.
  • Manage all payroll processing (through ADP) including time and leave reporting, W-2s, etc., including preparing payroll journal entries.
  • Reconcile monthly bank statements, credit card statements, prepare and distribute monthly and year-end financial statements
  • Design and provide service center and managerial reports, cash flow analyses, and other financial reports as requested by Executive Director, Board or managerial staff
  • Manage variable, monthly overhead allocations of the KBA and KBF based on time and leave reporting.
  • Prepare sales and use tax reports for the KBA and KBF.
  • When activity levels require, in conjunction with Finance Administrator process accounts receivables (including invoice payments, royalty/affinity payments, and lawyer referral service receipts) and accounts payables for the KBA and KBF, and membership payments, adjustments and refunds, etc.
  • When activity levels require, in conjunction with IOLTA coordinator, provide timely IOLTA ACH processing, deposits, etc.
  • Manage and evaluate equipment purchases/leases and maintenance agreements.
  • Provide training and assistance to other staff with regard to proper accounting and reporting procedures and provide budget and financial information as needed.
  • With Facilities Operations Manager manage and evaluate equipment purchases/leases and maintenance agreements, oversee office resources, equipment, building, parking areas, and grounds.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries for review by Executive Director.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field; evaluate policies and procedures pertinent to responsibilities and make recommendations to the Executive Director for general improvements and modifications necessary for compliance with legal requirements and regulations.
  • Assist the Executive Director with preparation of the annual budget.
  • Supervise Finance Administrator including oversight of weekly check requests, bill and invoice processing, etc.

  • Ability to travel in state and out of state to represent the association, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours.

This position supervises and evaluates the Finance Administrator.

Required and Desirable Education and Experience:

  • College degree in accounting required, CPA preferred
  • 3 years’ experience in financial and business administration with complete knowledge of standard accounting procedures including GL administration and funds accounting
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Extensive experience with non-profit or association budgeting and financial reporting preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting software, QuickBooks preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle with minimum of liability insurance is required.
