The Kansas Bar Association will be hosting its annual meeting this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19-20 at the Maner Conference Center in Topeka. This year’s meeting will feature two prominent keynote speakers, as well as the annual awards ceremony honoring those distinguished members of the bar. What to expect at this year’s meeting …
Erwin Chemerinsky, a prominent constitutional law scholar and dean at the University of California-Irvine School of Law, will be the keynote speaker on Friday. In addition to his two sessions, look out for a legislative update and an overview of the Daubert standard.
During the annual awards presentations, the KBA honors attorneys from across the state. This year the KBA will honor Carol Green with the association’s highest honor, the Phil Lewis Medal of Distinction. In addition, awards will also be presented to Capitol Federal, Laura Ice, Emily Metzger, F. James Robinson Jr. and many more. The KBA will also honor those who have practiced for 25, 50 and 60 years.
Friday night will feature two events … first, the Kansas Bar Foundation dinner, which will honor Newton attorney Thomas Adrian with the prestigious Robert K. Weary award. After the dinner, attorneys will then head over to the Topeka Performing Arts Center for the Topeka Bar Show, where attorneys and judges across the city have a chance to showcase their singing, dancing and acting talents.
Saturday features the second keynote speaker of the meeting, lawyer/humorist Sean Carter of Lawpsided Seminars. Carter will be presenting two ethics seminars. Both Washburn and the University of Kansas schools of law will be hosting luncheons at this year’s meeting, in addition to a separate luncheon with a focus on Brown v. Board of Education presented by Professor William Rich of Washburn University School of Law.
Attorneys may still register for the annual meeting at the registration desk, beginning Thursday afternoon, in the conference center; the cost of the meeting is $199.
