Edward J. Nazar, a partner of the Wichita law firm Redmond & Nazar LLP, was sworn in as president of the Kansas Bar Foundation on Friday, June 20 during its board of trustees in Topeka. He succeeds Katherine Kirk, of Lawrence, and will serve a term of one year.
Nazar earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from Boston College in 1971 and his juris doctorate from Washburn University School of Law in 1978. He currently practices in the areas of bankruptcy, health care law and real estate law. Since 1986 he has been a chapter 12 trustee for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Kansas and has been a chapter 7 trustee since 1981.
Nazar is a member of the Kansas, Wichita, and American bar associations; the American Bankruptcy Institute; a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy Law; and a member of the American College of Bankruptcy Foundation board of directors. He is a past commissioner of the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission, a past member of the University of Kansas Hospital Authority Board, and past president of the Kansas Bar Association Bankruptcy & Insolvency Law Section. He is a frequent continuing legal education presenter and a chapter author for the Kansas Bankruptcy Handbook.
