Thanks to a grant from the Kansas Bar Foundation, public service attorneys statewide are invited to participate in a National Institute for Trial Advocacy (NITA) training program. Whether you work as a legal aid attorney, public defender, county/district attorney, guardian ad litem or any other public service attorney, you will experience a unique program designed to improve your skills in the courtroom.

The emphasis is on "learning-by-doing" so for most of the program you will be performing exercises designed to make you a more effective advocate. Each time you perform, an instructor will share ideas on how you can be more effective. These suggestions will be constructive and offer specific ways for you to improve and be more successful in representing your client's needs. The performances of others in the program will also help you learn as you benefit from watching them and hearing the suggestions they receive.

The Fort Hays State University Memorial Union will be the site of this three day training (commencing Thursday, October 31 and ending Saturday, November 2). The training will be filled with demonstrations and exercises on the skills used in witness examination. It is anticipated that this training will qualify for 18 CLE credits in Kansas.

If you are interested in attending this tuition-free training, fill out the application linked here and submit it by October 10th. This program is open to 24 Public Service attorneys on a first come, first served basis. Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have received confirmation of your acceptance from NITA. Feel free to contact Mary Commander at NITA, with any questions or click here for more information on the program.
