Dean and Distinguished Professor of Law, Raymond Pryke Professor of First Amendment Law, University of California, Irvine School of Law. Prior to assuming this position in 2008, was the Alston and Bird Professor of Law and Political Science at Duke University from 2004-2008. Was a professor at the University of Southern California Law School from 1983-2004, including as the Sydney M. Irmas Professor of Public Interest Law, Legal Ethics, and Political Science. The author of eight books, including The Case Against the Supreme Court to be published by Viking in 2014, and over 200 law review articles. Frequently argues appellate cases, including in the United States Supreme Court. A graduate of Northwestern University and Harvard Law School.
Humorist at Law, Lawpsided Seminars
Carter graduated from Harvard Law School in 1992 and spent a decade as a corporate securities and M&A lawyer before leaving the practice of law to pursue a career as the country's foremost Humorist at Law. In 2003, the Radio-TV Interview Report dubbed Sean Carter as "America's Funniest Lawyer.” Since then, he has crisscrossed the country delivering comedic professional educational seminars for more than 300 bar associations, law firms and in-house corporate legal departments in more than 40 states. His presentations run the gamut from legal ethics to diversity to the U.S. Supreme Court, but they all have one thing in common – humor and plenty of it.
Carter lives in Mesa, Arizona with his wife and four sons.
