Michael Serra, Office of the Disciplinary Administrator, Topeka
This course will include a brief discussion regarding some of the more frequently asked legal ethics questions received by the Disciplinary Administrator’s Office since the beginning of 2016.  Topics that will be covered are (1) the general implications of an attorney’s use of social medial in their legal practice and (2) the recent study published by the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation regarding the prevalence of depression, anxiety and substance abuse in the legal profession.

Michael R. Serra is a Deputy Disciplinary Administrator for the Office of the Kansas Attorney Disciplinary Administrator. Originally from Grand Junction, Colorado, Mr. Serra received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Colorado in 2002 and a Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law in 2008. During law school and upon admission to the Kansas bar, Mr. Serra worked for the Kansas State Board for Indigent Defense Services as an Assistant Public Defender where he handled felony criminal defense matters. In 2011, Mr. Serra was appointed as Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Jefferson County, Kansas where he was head of the Child in Need of Care, Juvenile Offender and Appellate Divisions. Mr. Serra currently resides in Lawrence, Kansas with his wife and daughter.
