Attorneys play key roles in farm and ranch succession planning. This section analyzes how to achieve the balance between ethical responsibilities to the client and the need for maintaining the family communications and relationships necessary to carry on a successful operation.

Forrest Buhler, Kansas Agricultural Mediation Services, Manhattan, KS
Mr. Buhler has been Staff Attorney for the Kansas Agricultural Mediation Services (KAMS), a program administered through K-State Research and Extension at Kansas State University, since 1995, and with the Farmers Assistance Counseling and Training Service (FACTS) from 1987 to 1995. He taught the undergraduate course in Agricultural Law and Economics at Kansas State University from 1988 to 1994. He is a member of the Kansas Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the American Agricultural Law Association.
