Addressing Campus Sexual Assault: Understanding Title IX and the Campus SaVE Act

The Campus SaVE Act requires that incidents of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking be disclosed in annual campus crime reports. Every college participating in federal student aid programs must comply with the SaVE Act. Presenters will give a brief overview of victims’ rights under the SaVE Act as well as institutional requirements. Participants will better understand how Title IX and the SaVE Act work together to advocate for victims and hold perpetrators accountable.

Sara Rust-Martin, Director of Legal and Policy, KCSDV, Topeka

Sara Rust-Martin is the Criminal Justice Projects Attorney at KCSDV. In that role for six years, Sara has worked on a variety of initiatives focused on the criminal system.

Jessica Burger, Staff Attorney, KCSDV, Topeka

Jessica Burger is the Staff Attorney for the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in Sociology and Anthropology. She continued her studies at the University of Kansas School of Law where she received her law degree. In her position at KCSDV, she provides direct assistance to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. She currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition.
