Immigration & Family Law: Considerations When Working w/Immigrant Victim

Many of the steps that family law practitioners take when working with immigrant victims may have serious implications on their client's immigration status. This presentation will focus on working with immigrant victims in your family law practice.  It will discuss a range of considerations from barriers, immigration remedies that may be implicated by divorce and annulment, and best practice suggestions when working with immigrant victims of sexual and domestic violence.

Presented by:

Carly McPeak, Immigration Project Attorney, KCSDV, Topeka

Carly McPeak is the Immigration Project Attorney for the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV). She works directly with immigrant victims of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking. In her position at KCSDV, she presents statewide trainings for law enforcement, advocates, and other allied professionals relating to immigration issues that victims violence face. She graduated from Washburn University School of Law in May 2013.

Stephine Bowman, Protection Order Project Attorney, KCSDV, Topeka

Stephine Bowman is an attorney with KCSDV.  She trains on protection orders and represents clients in protection order proceedings throughout the entire state of Kansas.
